This project builds on the ongoing positive work with Hotwalls and Camber Dock Restorative Support Group and Portsmouth Mediation Service, there is a desire for a creative photography project that both engages the local residents and also young people who use the local area.

‘Converge’ is a creative community project that has the following core aims:

– Continue to build acceptance & understanding in the community
– Creatively engage young people in safe ways to discover the area
– Build creative skills and means of self expression with all participants
– Sustain and develop connections between different users of the public space

The project is driven by an ongoing series of regular, open access photography workshops, free to all participants. These workshops are build upon the success of ‘Photography Walkshops’ which are photography workshop walks that have been running since 2015 in and around Portsmouth by Strong Island.

Walkshops are open to the general public and often happen in the Old Portsmouth area, aimed at all ability levels.

Photo Walkshops are also delivered to schools and colleges in Portsmouth, Hampshire and West Sussex, with students from Year 4 up to A-Level & Degree. Photo walkshops have also been run many times with sometimes hard to reach groups such as at risk young people, young people with mental health issues, LGBTQ+, Neurodivergent, asylum seekers, young carers and more.
