CONVERGE
FREE WORKSHOPS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE & RESIDENTS IN OLD PORTSMOUTH

GET CREATIVE
Come along to free mobile phone photography walks and learn lots of new techniques, skills and tips with a professional photographer!
The photo walk workshops or ‘walkshops’ will give you the opportunity to learn lots of new camera techniques and skills in fun and interesting ways, these new skills and techniques you can use time and again in the future too.
NEW SKILLS
Learn lots of new creative skills:
Composition
Try lots of new ways of taking photos using composition, including techniques such as Rule of Thirds, Leading Lines, Natural Framing, Layering, and more.
Make your photography more engaging and discover new ways to see the world around you.
Perspectives
Discover and share what is around you, finding new ways of capturing the locations and the things you find on your walkshop. After the walkshop take these news skills and techniques and try them out in your own neighbourhood or favourite places.
Take Control
Mobile phone cameras often do everything for us, try taking more control of focusing, exposure and even experiment with creative effects with Depth of Field & so much more.
Storytelling with Photos
Explore differnet creative themes (such as B&W, textures, minimalism, portraiture, etc.) and learn how to build a story or theme to your images with what you include, leave out and tips on creating atmosphere.

EXHIBITION
With these summer photo walkshops with young people and local people, we want to provide a focal point of the incredible photos created by everyone. We will be having an exhibition of work created by people on these photo walks, as a shared celebration of the creativity that came from the project.
The exhibition would will include panels of images, located inside the Round Tower for a weekend in late summer/early autumn.
A group local creatives will be judges and select images of note that will win prizes. Every person with a photo included in the exhibition will also win an award too.
The Converge community photography project is a series of free photography walkshops that are for all abilities and for all types of equipment, including the camera people have in their pocket all the time, the smartphone.
During the regular two hour walkshop the participants will explore as a group the local area and learn a number of photography skills including different compositions, look at different perspectives, learn some creative tips and tricks. The walkshops help increase self confidence, raise aspirations and build valuable skills that can aid employability.
A walkshop is available for local residents that allow them to re-discover their local area, with the aim to open their eyes at new ways of seeing the familiar.
These photography workshops are part of a larger summer programme of engagement, including outreach work and activities by Motiv8, Pompey in the Community and Urbond.
The activities build upon the ongoing positive work with Hotwalls and Camber Dock Restorative Support Group and Portsmouth Mediation Service.
